Beyond the Impossible

Impossible is Just a WordImpossible is Just a Word

Everyone, at some point in his or her life, has dreamed of being somebody special, somebody big. Who hasn’t fantasized about being the one who hits the game-winning homer?

Who hasn’t dreamed of being the homecoming queen?

And how many times have we dreamed of being rich, successful, or happy with our relationships?

Often, we dream big dreams and have great aspirations. Unfortunately, our dreams remain just that – dreams. And our aspirations easily collect dust in our attic.

This is a sad turn of events in our life. Instead of experiencing exciting adventures in self-actualization, we get caught up in the humdrum of living from day to day just barely existing.

But you know what? Life could be so much better, if only we learned to aim higher.

The most common problem with setting goals is the word impossible. Most people get hung up thinking I can’t do this. It’s too hard. It’s too impossible. No one can do this.

However, if everyone thought that, there would be no inventions, no innovations, and no breakthroughs in human accomplishment.

Impossible is Just a Word2

Remember that scientists were baffled when they took a look at the humble bumblebee? Theoretically, they said, the bumblebee couldn’t fly. Unfortunately for the bumble, bee no one has told it so. So, fly it does.

On the other hand, some people suffer from dreaming of totally outrageous dreams and not acting on them. The result? Broken dreams, and tattered aspirations.

If you limit yourself with self-doubt, and self-limiting assumptions, you will never be able to break past what you deem impossible. If you reach too far out into the sky without working towards your goal, you will find yourself clinging to the impossible dream.

Try this exercise. Take a piece of paper and write down some goals in your life. Under one header, list down things ‘you know you can do. Under another header, write the things “you might be able to do”. And under one more, list the things that are “impossible for you to do”.

Now look at all the headers who strive every day to accomplish the goals that are under things ‘you know you can do. Check them when you can accomplish them. As you slowly can check all of your goals under that heading, try accomplishing the goals under the other header-the one that reads ‘you might be able to do.’

Impossible is Just a Word4As the items you wrote under things I could do are accomplished, you can move the goals that are under things that are ‘impossible for you to do to the list of things ‘you might be able to do.’

As you iterate through this process, you will find out that the goals you thought were impossible become easier to accomplish. And the impossible begins to seem possible after all.

You see, the technique here is not to limit your imagination. It is to aim high and start working towards that goal little by little. However, it also is unwise to set a truly unrealistic goal.

Those who just dream of a goal without working hard end up disappointed and disillusioned.

On the other hand, if you told someone a hundred years ago that man could be on the moon, they would laugh at you. If you had told them that you could send mail from here to the other side of the world in a few seconds, they would say you were out of your mind. But, through sheer desire and perseverance, these impossible dreams are now realities.

Impossible is Just a Word 10Thomas Edison once said that genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. Nothing could be truer. For one to accomplish his or her dreams, there has to be work and discipline. But take note that 1% has to be a think-big dream, and not some easily accomplished one.

Ask any gym rat and he or she will tell you that there can be no gains unless you are put out of your comfort zone. Remember the saying, “No pain, no gain”? That is as true as it can be.

So dream on, people! Don’t get caught up with your perceived limitations. Think big and work hard to attain those dreams. As you step up the ladder of progress, you will just about find out that the impossible has just become a little bit more possible.

Avoiding Common Law of Attraction Blunders

Law of Attraction Mistakes

  • Thinking and imagining what you want is enough.the-secret
  • Trying to attract a specific person.
  • Focusing on the material only.
  • Focusing on the spiritual only.
  • Working with affirmations only.

Truth is, there are many mistakes when it comes to using the Law of Attraction. It’s usually because most people don’t have a complete understanding of it. They saw the movie The Secret and thought they got it when all they got was an introduction to it. So, what’s the truth?

  • Imagining what you want is a great way to program your unconscious but it’s only a first step. You still have work to do. That’s where the Law of Right Action comes into play. Do something to assist the attraction of what you want. Rhonda Byrne created the movie The Secret with more than the Law of Attraction; she didn’t just sit and dream about it. She took action. (She’s taken more action recently, as her next book, The Power, will be out in August.)
  • Trying to attract a specific person is a violation of free will. Your task is to focus on the qualities you want in a person. Then let the Universe bring your match to you. After all, it has about seven billion people (!) to draw from. It’s an ego trip to think you have selected the right person for you when you don’t know everyone in the pool.
  • Focusing on the material, in attracting new cars and more cash, is fine, as long as you know it’s a temp high and a mask for the real juice of life: the Divine. Don’t focus on the car, but on the feeling behind the car.
  • Focusing on the spiritual or metaphysical often creates a nasty “spiritual ego” that judges everyone else as lacking and needing more meditation, spirituality, etc. It’s the worst ego of all. It gets mesmerized by the invisible and overlooks the visible; it judges the material as bad, not realizing that everything is spiritual.
  • Affirmations are one way to plant a new idea in your mind, but affirmations usually don’t go deep enough to create change. You need to get into the unconscious mind. To do that you may need deeper work, more clearing, or coaching.

Most people who try to use the Law of Attraction are wanting to click their heels together and have their intentions manifest before their eyes. While I believe in magic and miracles, I also know too many people self-sabotage their desires and deceive themselves; they trick themselves out of their good.

mental-focus

The goal of life, as I’ve said many times, is to awaken.

One of the first steps is to awaken to the deeper aspects of the Law of Attraction. Yes, you can most likely have whatever you can imagine, usually not by thinking about it alone, though, but by adding action, positive belief, and more.

I’ve covered this at length in recent books and in recent audio programs, such as The Secret to Attracting Money. I’ll be doing it again in my new audio program, where I explain how to move from the Law of Attraction to the Law of Creation. For now, yes, learn more about the Law of Attraction, but also be sure to use the Law of Right Action and do something.

Life is a co-creation, which means it needs you to help attract the results you want.

Music As Therapy

The idea of listening to music while studying is a very common one for students. Some students may be surprised to learn that it can help them study and retain information better than they would without sound.

Dopamine and memory information processing occurs in many areas throughout our brains and most people experience some degree of memory formation when learning new things. When you listen to music while studying, it helps to activate multiple parts of the brain at once.

Simply put, having both auditory stimulations along with visual information processed by your brain can help improve memory retention. The dopamine released during this process is partly responsible for helping us remember what we are doing and why. adult-listening-to-music

Dopamine is released when you are doing something enjoyable to you, especially when it brings on some type of pleasurable reward.

You remember better while listening to music because your brain releases dopamine every time it hears new information, which makes you want to listen more intently and therefore remember it more clearly.

This explains why some students have a hard time focusing on their studies, as it is usually not an enjoyable process for them. If you can put yourself in a good mood whenever you need to study, it will help improve your memory and attention span.

Your brain doesn’t remember meaningless information as well as it does the things that mean something to you. Put yourself into a good mood by listening to your favorite music, and you’ll find that it’s much easier to focus on what you need to learn.

The music doesn’t have to be loud for this process work either to. If the volume is too high, it can make you even more stressed while studying because of all the other extra noise.

When you study, try to play the music that is instrumental without any words being sung along with it. This will help improve your concentration because you won’t have anything to distract you from the information that’s being presented.

Another thing that can help improve memory retention while studying is listening to low volumes of different types of music. For example, try listening to classical music one day and soft rock another. This creates a different mood in your brain that will help you learn what you are being taught.

people-music

Listening to music makes studying more enjoyable for many students. When you study in a good mood, you remember information better.

Music helps activate the different parts of your brain that are responsible for storing memories and improving concentration. This is why having music on when you need to focus can improve memory retention by up to 15%.

If you want to make studying more enjoyable and remember things better, then try listening to music while studying.

You will also learn that you improve your creativity as well as allow yourself to relax more when you listen to music as opposed to not listening at all.

Finally, you will learn to study in a way that is more appropriate for your brain type.

Conflict Management: Achieving Harmony in the Workplace

Conflict management in an organization is done in two approaches conflict-management

Preventive measures

In a preventive approach, the company management tries to develop a work environment or a situation where dysfunctional conflict can be avoided. Conflict is not constructive, so it needs to be resolved quickly as soon as it seems to arise. Efforts should be made consistently to prevent conflicts from arising. Following are the preventive measures taken by company management to reduce organizational conflicts.

Develop Common Goals

It has been seen that the main cause for the development of organizational conflicts is due to incompatible objectives. This occurs when conflicts between groups or between an organization and its employees occur. The prime strategy to reduce conflicts is to establish common goals that all the groups can agree on to facilitate effective communication. The common goals facilitate mutual group dependency since they are high-value superordinate goals. An incentive system can be used to reduce group conflicts and reward the task that benefits the organization.

Reducing Interdependence

Interdependence is the main cause of all inter-group conflicts. For instance, staff managers as well as line managers. When the interdependence will below the level of conflicts among the groups also be below. Although, indeed, interdependency among groups can’t be avoided totally. It is better to separate the departments physically instead of separating them organizationally.

Reduce The Shared Resources

Sharing scarce resources poses another cause for inter-group conflict. This type of conflict is reduced by management by reducing the sharing. One way to reduce this inter-group conflict is by increasing the scarce resources so that all units can use them independently. However, being scarce, these resources can’t always be increased. The best technique for solving this conflict is the optimum allocation of scarce resources.

Building Trust and Communication

Management ensures to build trust among all unit members. More honesty and trust in an organization will ensure effective communication. Management should ensure that all groups and individuals communicate openly with one another to avoid miscommunication and misunderstanding. Building more trust will help them understand each other’s problems and be open to each other.

Coordination

The next step after effective communication is maintaining proper coordination. Conflict can be managed in an organization by properly coordinating all organizational activities. It is better to establish a specialized unit to deal with coordination problems whenever it arises.

Exchanging Personnel

Another best way for managing and reducing organizational conflict is exchanging the personnel of the conflicting team for a specific period. Exchange of the conflicting group’s personnel ensures better understanding between groups where one person will defend and present the other’s role. The method of personnel exchange is identical to role reversal.

Superior Authority

Suppose a conflict that arises in an organization can’t be solved by organizational team members or group members. In that case, it has to be reported to the superior authority, who can resolve organizational conflict and give a correct decision. Although the decision may not result in agreement all the members will accept it since it will be given by a superior who holds an official higher rank.

Reorganizing the Conflicting Group

Conflict management can be ensured through group reorganization. Group members having similarities will be put in one group since they have common interests and similar perspectives. So their objectives, as well as the problem-solving approach, will also be similar. As this group includes predictable behavior, it becomes easy for the management to reduce conflict.

Curative measures

The curative measure helps to resolve behavioral conflict. This measure helps resolve conflicts when they occur and become dysfunctional in the company.

Five major styles for conflict management

Conflict is a natural phenomenon that takes place in the work environment. However, it leads to mental health problems, absenteeism, and low organizational productivity. Conflict also acts as a great motivator to increase flexibility, generate new ideas, and better understand the relationship and workplace. Therefore, it is important to manage conflict effectively to help the organization gain more success. As per TKI (Thomas Kilman conflict mode instrument), five big conflict management styles are used by human resources.

Collaborating Style

This conflict style requires groups to be cooperative and assertive and be collaborative to find a solution to work and work with others. This conflict management style helps to satisfy the needs of all people as it is the opposite of avoiding. This style works best to minimize negative feelings and maintain long-term relationships. For instance, integrating two departments into one department where both sides work in the best way in the new department.

Competing Style

Uncooperative and assertive people take this style to achieve their concerns without caring about the relationship. This style works for an organization while hiring a new client and competes with other companies.

Avoiding Style

Groups adopt this style to avoid conflict and take diplomatic steps to withdraw themselves from risky situations. For instance, conflict with any member regarding their ethics. It is better to use this style to postpone the situation /outcome when it is secure.

Accommodating Style

Accommodating style is an approach to conflict management that may seem generous and self-sacrificing but also tends to take advantage of your weakness. It is better to use this style to avoid conflict when you want to preserve your relationship with the opposite person and when you don’t care much about the result.

Compromising Style

This style is a perfect solution that is mutually accepted by both parties and satisfies both conflicting parties while carrying an element of cooperation and assertiveness. It is better to use this style when the outcome isn’t important and there is a shortage of time. For instance, giving a little by making a decision and moving on to other important things.

The General Approach to Managing Conflict

There are three steps required to minimize conflicts in an organization.

First, Ensure coordination and cooperation are the norms by maintaining a low stressful climate and low conflict

The second step requires isolating each conflict into a single family of conflicts. It should include concrete conflict and rational points instead of accepting personality conflict.

Achieving Harmony in Your Work and Home Life

healthy-fresh-foods

A balanced work-life is to believe there are “ten healthy habits one needs to follow to live a balanced work life. No matter what I am doing – whether on vacation or going about my day-to-day work – these healthy habits are important to me. You may be wondering what these habits are. To know more keep on reading. My friends often find me saying that everything in life is about balance. Healthy living is the equilibrium of good habits, not something extreme.

So how do we achieve this balance?

To start with, we must focus on consistency but don’t rush because consistency takes time. Also, take a step back to disengage from negative self-talk and try to transform that into positive self-talk.

Remember that being obsessed with anything can cause the counterbalance outcome. Your reality is shaped by your thoughts and when you spend too much time thinking about losing calories, what food to eat, whether or not to use social media or simply compare yourself to others, you end up feeling depressed and disconnected from yourself. Changing these negative thoughts into more positive ones is a great healthy habit to try and develop.

Eating healthy foods provided by Mother Nature such as fresh fruits and green vegetables is another must-do if you are trying to develop healthy habits. Cut out processed and packaged foods as much as possible. Think about how you want your day to turn out and do one or two things for your health that will benefit you in the long run.

work-life-balance

Exercising moderately, eating some greens or drinking more water are easy ways to build good habits that you can swear by. Be mindful at all times and realize it’s not about yesterday or tomorrow; it’s about where you are today and at this moment – it’s all about now.

Now that we have a basic understanding of what healthy habits seem like and how you can find that equilibrium in your life, let’s dive into a list of ten good habits that will make your well-being a priority.

1. Change your mindset. Think of your health as a lifestyle change and a daily balancing act.

2. Sleep sufficiently and in good time. Your body undergoes necessary repairs when you sleep. Physical and psychological repair takes place from 10 pm to 6 am.

3. Be patient. It takes roughly ninety days to create a new habit. So, develop patience and learn to love yourself through the process of change.

4. Read voraciously. Educate yourself on spiritual practices, gain knowledge about the foods you eat, read about the lives of wellness masters – there are so many kinds of literature out there.

5. Be mindful of your energy system. Think of your body as particles of energy and ponder over what kind of fuel you want to use to keep it functioning. Do you really want coke and chips to get into your system? I hope not because they will eventually break down your system.

6. Hydrate often. Drink good quality water. If you like, you can add some lemon or other fruits to it to drink more frequently.

7. Eat healthily. Consume natural foods and stay away from processed, packaged food. At least, 80 to 90% of the time, your food intake should be healthy.

8. Don’t feel guilty. When you do eat food that is not good for your health, don’t kill yourself with guilt. Remember balance is important so once in a while, you can break away from your mundane diet and incorporate some junk in it until, of course, you’ve mastered the habit of eating well.

9. Move around. Exercise is the best medicine – even if it’s something as simple as going for a walk or as complex as working out at the gym. Your body is meant for movement. Being in nature is one of the best things you can do for your body.

10. Know yourself. Get to the root of why you’re self-sabotaging if you are and foster a more loving relationship of self-worth with yourself.

And…for your sake eat right!!
